PITOCIN

Statement of the active and other substances:
Oxytocin Bp 10 IU/ml

Stimulation of parturition and uterine involution, control of post-partum haemorrhage and for let-down of milk.

Administration and dosage:
By intramuscular or intravenous injection.
By deep Intramuscular injection:
– Ewe and goats: 0.2 to 1ml (2 to 10 IU)/animal as single dose
– Cows: 1 to 4 ml (10 to 40 IU)/animal as single dose
– Mare: 1 to 4 ml (10 to 40 IU)/animal as single dose
– Bitch: 0.2 to 1 ml (2 to 10 IU)/animal as single dose
– Queen: 0.2 to 0.5 ml (2 to 5 IU)/animal as single dose
By intravenous route:
Dilute 1ml Pitocin in 10ml water for injection. Infuse the diluted solution slowly as follows
– Ewe and goats: 0.5 to 2.5 ml (0.5 to 2.5 IU)/animal as single dose
– Cows: 2.5 to 10 ml (2.5 to 10 IU)/animal as single dose
– Mare: 2.5 to 10 ml (2.5 to 10 IU)/animal as single dose
– Bitch: 0.5 to 2.5 ml ( 0.5 to 2.5 IU)/animal as single dose
– Queen: 0.5 to 1.25 ml ( 0. 5 to 1.25 IU)/animal as single dose
